WFT Ireland is delighted to hear writer Sinead Collopy speak about WFT Chair and WIFTI President Dr. Susan Liddy’s advocacy for women in film on the RTE Radio 1 Nine O’Clock Show on 2nd January!
When asked about breaking into the industry in her 40s when she had no connections in the screen industry, Sinead shares: “A Limerick woman called Susan Liddy, she works in the University of Limerick, and she’s very involved in Women in Film, and I had come across some of her articles and I emailed her. I said, ‘Hi Susan, I’m a woman living in Clare, I’m really interested in making some connections in the industry, would you know anybody in the Mid-west area?’ And it was actually Susan who put me in touch. It’s about finding those people that are advocates for new entries and that will take a chance on sending you on a certain path, and they’re instrumental, people like Susan, they’re instrumental.”

From lobbying for fair representation and confronting ageism in the industry, to addressing pay disparities, WFT Ireland continues to champion the rights of women in all facets of filmmaking and television production. WFT Chair Dr. Susan Liddy officially started her presidency for WIFT International at the WIFTI Summit in Helsinki last year, extending her dedication for advocacy to an international platform.
