Directed by WFT Member Gemma Creagh, with WFT Board Member Jaro Waldeck as DOP, horror/comedy Conveyance is set to have its international premiere at the FrightFest Short Film Showcase in Glasgow this March.
Conveyance marks the directorial debut of Gemma and is the only non-UK title screening at the FrightFest Short Film Showcase. Set against the backdrop of Ireland’s housing crisis, the film, produced by Maeve McGrath and Keith Bogue for Dromglen Productions, showcases the talent and creativity of a wonderful ensemble of actors and crew.
For the first time in Glasgow, FrightFest will present its famous SHORT FILM SHOWCASE strand, which shines the spotlight on talent from the UK and Ireland, unleashing the creative imaginations of seven up-and-coming directors, including two from Scotland.
The Premise:
Conveyance tells the darkly humorous story of a young couple, Brian and Suzanne, who, after years of sub-par rented accommodation, finally secure their dream home: a stunning, sea-facing apartment in South Dublin. Their elation quickly turns to dread as they encounter strange occurrences, and Brian becomes convinced that their new home is haunted by a malevolent spirit. Despite Suzanne’s scepticism, Brian enlists a white witch to cleanse the apartment. As supernatural occurrences escalate, Brian and Suzanne must decide how far they will go to hold onto their new home.

“Although the spooky moments were mostly forged in my imagination, there are elements borrowed from my own life in the depiction of Brian and Suzanne’s relationship,” comments Director Gemma Creagh, “This is the story of one couple who are struggling to communicate as they take this massive step in their relationship. As their dream home turns into a living nightmare they must learn to work together or face losing everything.”
Funded by dlr’s First Frames Scheme and supported by Creative Ireland, Conveyance is a timely narrative that reflects the struggles many face in today’s housing market, all wrapped in tension and humour.
Conveyance will screen at the FrightFest Showcase in Glasgow Film Festival on 8th March 2025 at 1pm in Glasgow Film Theatre – check out the programme and book now!
