WFT is delighted to celebrate with our member, Cinematographer Esme Pum McNamee, who has just been awarded an Emmy for her work on the New York Times opinion documentary The Taliban Promised Them Amnesty. Then They Executed Them.
About the documentary:
The Taliban Promised Them Amnesty. Then They Executed Them is a product of a seven-month investigation by the team, the video reveals that nearly 500 former government officials and members of the Afghan security forces were killed or forcibly disappeared during the Taliban’s first six months in power. Times Opinion built the most extensive database of revenge killings in Afghanistan to date using a variety of verification methods that included conducting forensic video research, confirming local news reports, collaborating with human rights organisations and interviewing survivors and family members.
About ESME PUM MCNAMEE
Esme Pum McNamee is a Cinematographer and Filmmaker based in Dublin. She is known for her award winning documentary and drama projects. Most recently she won an Emmy award for her work with the New York Times Opinion Doc The Taliban promised them amnesty, then they executed them.
She graduated from The National Film School at IADT where she specialised in Cinematography and Experimental Directing. During her career she has worked on well known Irish and internationally acclaimed productions such as The Rhythm Section,Sing Street, Mooneboy, Mary Shelly, Secret Scripture and Jimi Hendrix. Esme’s current areas of work are in Documentary, Short Films, Commercials and Music Videos.
Esme was also nominated for an Emerging Directors Award for Cinematography for her recent collection of commercial, short and music video work with well renowned companies that include Bose, Jameson, Frank & Honest & BBC Storyworks.
