Aislinn Clarke’s Irish-language Horror Fréwaka in Irish Cinemas from April 25

We are delighted to share that Aislinn Clarke’s Irish-language horror film Fréwaka, featuring actors and WFT Ireland members Clare Monnelly and Bríd Ní Neachtain, will have its theatrical release back home to Irish cinema audiences on April 25!

Aislinn Clarke’s Fréwaka follows Shoo (Clare Monnelly), who begins caring for an old woman (Bríd Ní Neachtain) in a remote village. They form a strangely deep connection. Shoo becomes consumed by the old woman’s paranoia, rituals, and superstitions, finding herself and her life unravelled by the end.

Written and directed by Aislinn Clarke (The Devil’s Doorway), Fréwaka is a chilling new folk horror rooted in Irish folklore, set for nationwide release from April 25. Fréwaka has had a very successful Festival run, having its World Premiere at Locarno Film Festival & it then went on to screen at BFI London Film Festival & Sitges Film Festival. 

The film had an exclusive Irish preview screening at Catalyst International Film Festival (April 4), followed by a Q&A with writer/director Aislinn Clarke. Additional special Q&A previews will take place in Belfast (QFT, April 17) and Dublin (IFI, April 23).
