WFT Ireland’s Maríssa Aroy, Emmy-winning documentary filmmaker, is currently working on a new multimedia exhibit for the Smithsonian Institution with the working title Unpacking Filipino America.

Known for her work on Sikhs in America and The Delano Manongs, Aroy continues to highlight the stories of underrepresented communities, with her latest project focusing on Filipino immigrants in Stockton, California’s Little Manila.

Reflecting on her work, she said: “I want someone to see our brown faces on the screen and feel proud of who we are as a people. To see all the challenges we’re faced with in the world and to know that there are Filipinos who speak up, who fight for justice, who are heard and who are seen.”
