Fresh Film, an Irish organisation dedicated to supporting and promoting young filmmakers and whose Founder and Artistic Director is WFT member Jayne Foley, announces its remarkable achievement at the Cannes Film Festival. The organisation was honoured to win the Community Impact Award at the Screen International Global Production Awards.
The awards ceremony, which took place on Monday night in Cannes, saw Fresh Film win the award amidst formidable competition from NEOM Media Industries in Saudi Arabia and Osiyo, Voices of the Cherokee People (US). This recognition is a testament to Fresh Film’s commitment to nurturing young talent and fostering creative expression.
WFT member, Jayne Foley, the Artistic Director and founder of Fresh Film, expressed her pride when accepting the award. “Our mission has always been to empower young voices and this award validates our efforts. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the young filmmakers who share their stories with us and continue to inspire us every day,” said Foley.
“Fresh Film continues to champion the next generation of filmmakers and this honour provides a powerful reminder of the importance of creating a community of young film-makers and supporting their storytelling,” she added.
The award winners are chosen by judges drawn from across the industry, including senior TV and Film producers, production executives and film commissioners. They said; “Teaching the next generation of filmmakers at an early age allows the industry to grow from within the community. The hardest thing when growing up with a dream of filmmaking is how to get into what can be a very closed industry. Fresh Film allows for young people to get a taste and training.”
